Citizens Bank & Trust Co. acquires Columbian Bank

TOPEKA- Citizens Bank & Trust Company has acquired the insured deposits of The Columbian Bank and Trust Company, Topeka, KS. Citizens Bank & Trust is expanding into Topeka, Leawood, and Overland Park in Kansas, and Lee’s Summit, Mo. All of the former Columbian Bank and Trust Company branch locations will be open Monday, August 25, for business as usual.
Bill Young, Chairman of Citizens Bank & Trust, headquartered in Chillicothe, Mo., said “Columbian Bank has a proud heritage as an independent community bank. That’s what our team has provided with the ‘Citizens Experience’ since our founding in 1889. Accordingly, we are confident that we are well-positioned to continue serving the Columbian clients and communities.”
The acquisition was effective at the close of business Friday. The banking centers will open under the Citizens Bank & Trust name on Monday.
“This acquisition advances our strategy to organically grow Commercial Banking and Wealth Management services in Kansas and Missouri and quickly builds our Community Banking network,” said Roger Arwood, CEO of Citizens Bank & Trust. “This is an exciting opportunity for Citizens as we add new markets and valued clients from the Columbian organization.”
During the transition, customers will continue to see familiar faces at their banking centers. “Monday morning will be business as usual. Our customers in these communities will be greeted by familiar faces in their banks. Many of Columbian’s employees will be asked to join our team,” said Young.
Prior to the acquisition, Citizens Bank & Trust., founded in 1889, with local, closely-held, fifth-generation ownership, had over $1 billion in assets serving clients in 16 Missouri communities from 20 locations. The bank will grow to 29 Community Banking centers with this acquisition, and work continues toward expanding its presence in Kansas City’s Northland region.
